40 Days for Life and Hope

We are in the middle of this year’s 40 Days for Life Campaign that runs March 6th to April 14th. Life is a wonderful thing to celebrate, isn’t it? Think about the things you would celebrate about life. The smell after a rain? Would it be a pink and blue sunset? The smell of grass being mowed in the warm summer days? The mountains? The sea? The sound of rushing water, whether the waves or a creek?
Would it be the joy of a newborn? The smile on your grandmother’s face when you are celebrating her 85th birthday? I saw a movie once where the quote that got to me was, “Life, it’s hard to let go.” What would it be like if we never got the opportunity to experience planet earth? What would it be like if we were all alone and had no family or friends? No other human beings around us that can share the joys and yes sorrows, of life with us?
Think about your own life, if you were to find out tomorrow that you had a terminal disease and you didn’t have long to live, what would you want to do? Who would you want to see? What would be the reasons for the tears that you shed? Life is a treasure.
Life is worth celebrating!
The mission for the 40 Days for Life is to bring together the body of Christ in a spirit of unity during a focused time of prayer, fasting and peaceful activism, with the purposes of repenting and seeking God’s favor to turn hearts and minds from a culture of death to a culture of life, thus bringing an end to abortion. This is an opinion of the pro-life sector. No judgment, no hate, just an understanding that life is something to be treasured.
Although great strides have been made in reducing the number of abortions, abortion is still the leading cause of death worldwide surpassing all illnesses combined. This is staggering to me. I have lost three close family members to cancer. The “c” word is the worst word we could hear. It seems so prevalent. Yet the babies being taking through voluntary choice, far surpasses all deaths through illness? Oh Lord, we don’t know what we are doing.
42 million children die around the globe every year. Here in the United States, 1.2 million babies’ lives are ended yearly. 40 Days for Life is the largest organization in the world that has a positive effect in helping to reduce the number of children dying needlessly. Since 2007, 13,998 babies have been saved from abortion just through education, love, mercy and help. 170 abortion workers have left the industry and 90 abortion facilities have closed down. What does that say to your heart?
I was once someone who walked into an abortion clinic. The decision I made that day forever haunts me. I have also been on the sidewalk praying for the women outside an abortion clinic. That was a very painful day for me. I understand the anguish and confusion of an unplanned pregnancy. My prayer was for the Holy Spirit to speak to the hearts of the women because only He can do it so gently, it is life saving.
Only through prayer can we end this horrific misunderstanding of the gift of life!
